The
school follows the National Curriculum and also provides for Religious
Education, PSHCE (personal, social, health and citizenship education)
and Careers Education and Guidance. The weekly timetable has 25 X 50
minute lessons in addition to tutorial sessions and assemblies. There
are currently three key stages (age ranges), 2, 3 and 4, but by
September 2007, the school will be secondary only, an LEA initiative
also applying to the other five learning difficulty schools.
Younger
pupils aged to 12 years
spend most of their time with their classteacher and full-time teaching
assistants in a primary model; Key Stage 3 pupils, up to 14
years, have a tutor but move around the school to different subject
teacher bases. Key Stage 4 students have some lessons in their own block
but they also move around the school to other specialist areas.
Senior students attend further education college half a day per week for
two years, have five weeks work-experience (in three placements) and
have the opportunity to sit external examinations, including GCSE Entry
Level.
